JR Ueno Station is an important transportation hub in the Ueno area. It provides easy access to Ueno Park, Ueno Zoo, and to Ueno’s busy shopping district. It is also located close to two other stations: Keisei Ueno Station and Tokyo Metro Ueno Subway Station, and there are a variety of bus and taxi services in the surrounding area. Inside JR Ueno Station are two shopping centers with a variety of stores, cafes and restaurants, and there are a number of other useful facilities.

Japan Rail Information and Japan Rail Pass Exchange
There is a Travel Service Center on the Grand Concourse close to the Central Ticket Gate. This center has English speaking staff who can help you with information on the JR railway network, rail tickets, passes, and sightseeing. The Travel Service Center is open from 8.30 to 19.00 on weekdays and until 18.00 on weekends.

Right beside the Travel Service Center is The JR East Information Center which can also provide information on train schedules and other travel advice. Passengers can pick up the Japan Rail Pass at this Information Center. The Information Center is open from 9.00 to 17.00.

There is also an Information Desk just inside the Park Gate on the 3rd floor where you can get information on train times and tickets. The Park Gate Information Desk is open from 9.30 to 18.00.

Tourist Information
There is a Gurunavi Tourist Information Office just inside the Asakusa Entrance on the 1st floor of the station. The office has some tourist information center but is chiefly focused on local restaurant recommendations in the Ueno and Asakusa areas. Staff here can help you choose a suitable restaurant, check for availability, make a booking for you, and give you directions to its location. This service is particularly useful if you have special dietary needs or are looking for a family-friendly restaurant. Free Wi-Fi internet access is also available at this office. The office is open from 10.00 until 18.00.

Lost & Found at Ueno Station
The station’s Lost & Found Office is located on the 2nd floor inside the Higashi-Ueno Entrance. The office is open from 10.00 to 20.00.

ATM & Money Exchange
There is an ATM cash machine for international bank cards inside the Asakusa Entrance on the 1st floor of the station. This ATM accepts major international bank cards such as VISA, MasterCard, Maestro, Cirrus, Plus, UnionPay, and JCB.

There is a foreign currency exchange desk on the 2nd floor of the station building. This World Currency Shop is located in the 2nd floor restaurant arcade on the east side of the Grand Concourse. The World Currency Shop is open from 11.00 until 19.00.

Shopping
There are two shopping centers in JR Ueno Station: Atré which is located outside the ticket gates and Ecute which is located inside the ticket gates. The shops and dining facilities of Atré can be found on both the east and west side of the Grand Concourse, but most of the stores are on the west side. Here you can find souvenir and sweet shops, stores selling men’s and ladies’ fashions, a supermarket, a drugstore, a bakery, and other grocery stores.

Ecute is located on the 3rd floor of the station building inside the ticket gates. Here you can find clothes stores (including a branch of Uniqlo), souvenir shops, convenience stores, a pharmacy, a bakery, a supermarket, stores selling bento lunch boxes, and a bookshop with an English language books section.

Dining
Both Atré and Ecute have a number of cafes and restaurants where you can find something to eat. The main restaurant area outside the ticket gate is in a 2nd floor arcade on the east side of the Grand Concourse. Here you can find a variety of restaurants serving noodles, pork cutlets, sushi, hamburger steaks, Thai food, and Japanese style sweets.

There are also a number of restaurants on the west side of the station building, outside the Yamashita Entrance.

There are also some pubs and bars in the station building. The Hard Rock Café is located on the 1st floor on the east side of the Grand Concourse. Here you can eat your fill of nachos, chicken wings, classic burgers and club sandwiches.

The Rose & Crown is a British style “Victorian Pub” in the 2nd floor arcade. This pub has its own “Rose Beer” craft beer on tap, and fish and chips, pizza, and beef steak on the food menu.

The Stáisiún is an Irish pub with both Guinness and Kilkenny beer on tap. This pub is located directly outside the Iriya Ticket Gate on the 3rd floor.

If you require assistance from the police, there is a police box outside the Asakusa Entrance.
